Skinny Picks: Valentines Day

I apologize for the lack of posting! I have been interviewing for big girl jobs and have been putting all of my energy into that. I landed a second interview next week so I may not be back into the full swing of things until after that.

In the meantime, you can check out some of my picks for Valentine's Day. It's all about impressing your man on V-day. Guys don't get fashion so I kept it simple with solid colors. They also like to see your body so I chose a little more body conscious fits but nothing too much so you leave a little to the imagination ;)

Bonus- everything is under $50!

XOXO,
A

Skinny Picks: Forever21 New Arrivals

Sharing some recent "wish list" items from Forever21. I love the colors in the plaid shirt and have been searching for gold stackable rings just like these. I'm also a sucker for a soft stretchy long sleeve. Eek go buy these things so I won't.

Outfit: Winter Gray

 Photography: Rachel Morse

Winter is a great time to pull out your darker pieces as they are more appropriate than in the brighter Spring and Summer seasons. However, I start to feel gloomy dressing in gray, navy and black, so I threw in a fun, colorful necklace.

I follow a few other blogs that were playing around with "winter brights" and loved the idea. It starts to look monotonous when everyone on the street is dressed in dark coats.

XOXO,
A

Skinny Picks: Old Navy Basics

Links:

I apologize for the lack of posts the past few days I have been under the weather! Normally this means I would spend time in bed resting, which would give me time to post, but I had so much to do I couldn't rest.

Today I wanted to post about Old Navy. Over the years I have bought a few items from them that I have worn over and over again. My number one standout item that I bought a few years ago is a military jacket. They are still making the same jacket this many years later and I think I like this one more than mine, although they are almost identical. The only difference is mine has a hood. But so many people ask where I got my jacket from and when I tell them Old Navy they freak.

Another great item is a distressed jean. I remember when they became popular and my mom refused to buy me jeans with holes in them because it didn't seem to make sense. She told me that it was a silly trend that would go out of style. Little did she know it's still acceptable to have hole-y pants!

A stripe shirt is always a must. It goes with any and everything for so many occasions. I don't think I have to go into much detail.
The cargo pants look awesome paired with the camel colored booties. I have never owned pants like these but I am always looking for a different kind of pant that aren't jeans and aren't too colorful. These seem to be a good balance.

A

Outfit: Green with Envy

 Photography: Rachel Morse

Are you tired of seeing these leather leggings and heels yet? I've posted them quite a few times now, but I get so much use out of them. Not only are they adorable, but they're both so comfy. The leggings have an elastic waist and are really stretchy so you don't feel uncomfortable in them. The heels are the perfect height and don't cut into anywhere weird on my feet. But what really makes the outfit is the necklace. It's on sale online (link below) so snatch it up while you can!

Outfit: Tribal Tank

Photography: Rachel Morse

I don't usually wear words or pictures on my clothing, but I like this tribal skull and it makes a boring outfit more interesting without much effort. The side of the shirt has a big armpit hole that shows off my entire torso so I layered another grey tank underneath. If you're feeling like showing off more skin a bandeau could work.

Skinny Picks: Sheinside sweaters

This is the cutest clothing site that I completely forgot about until today. Everything is so affordable and the clothing doesn't look cheap.

It was hard to decide what clothing items to highlight because there were so many great pieces, but I decided to do a sweater post because of this gloomy weather. They are one of the few things I look forward to in the winter... that and pumpkin spice lattes.
Did I mention all of the sweaters below are $35 and under?!

Outfit: Simple Stripes

I live in this dress. It is so comfortable I could wear it to bed. I got this a little while ago on sale and while searching for the link I found a ton of the same dress but with slightly different features. Ugh now I want all of them. It is the easiest dress to throw on and look like you tried at least a little. I've worn it as a beach cover up, shopping, lounging, movies, dates, you name it. It's called a "swing dress" according to ASOS, and I get why. It has the greatest material that I can't describe... it's kind of bouncy or something. But it really does make you want to spin (or swing) around!

XOXO,
A

I went on a Target run for a few essentials, and of course I found something I didn't necessarily need.

But this shirt was so cute and it was $17! Even better news for you guys- it's $15 online!

On another note... how amazing are these pictures? Rachel says she hasn't had much practice with shooting people but I think they look professional (maybe I'm biased). I am so lucky to have her help!

Outfit: printed blouse, black leather skirt, tan wedges, crystal necklace, tortoise sunglasses

 Photography: Rachel Morse

This skirt is awesome. I snagged it from Forever21 not too long ago and thought I would never wear it. Turns out, it looks great with any top. It's a little on the short side (it doesn't help that I have grasshopper legs) so I only wear it to go out in. For the pictures sake I wore wedges, but in real life I would wear sandals because I tower over everyone in these shoes. I also feel a little less scandy.

Outfit: Army Glam

 Photography: Rachel Morse

I am beyond excited to have my close friend Rachel join Skinnythreads! We had a lot of fun shooting these and can't wait to play around in different locations. Let me know what you think of the new look!

As far as the outfit goes- I love black because it looks great on everyone. It's slimming, it doesn't wash anyone out, and well... it's slimming. :) It can be hard to wear black shoes, a black shirt and black pants, but it worked with this outfit because of the contrast in materials as well as the vest and chunky necklace to make it more interesting.

Exciting News!

I am super duper excited that my friend Rachel has decided to become my new photog for the blog. The previous pictures are awful and don't do the outfits justice. Tomorrow will be the first post with the new look so make sure to check it out!
